To everything there is a season...

Just like in the song by The Byrds, there is a season for everything. This fall I will be transitioning from Inner Health Colon Hydrotherapy to Juice on Main, a cold pressed, organic juice and smoothie bar in Medfield. We don't have the exact opening date yet, though we hope to be up and running by the end of September.

As with all changes, I have very mixed feelings. I am really excited about opening Juice on Main. Juicing has amazing health benefits and fits with my personal and professional mission of helping people improve their health.

I am sad about winding down with Inner Health, which I opened in 2004. During this time I have been blessed to share your journey to better health and will miss you.

I am exploring ways to keep Inner Health running and will keep you informed of changes as they develop. Right now I am open to different possibilities.

As for more practical matters, I will have regular hours for colonics through the month of August. In September I will be working only two days a week. If you have unused sessions that you bought as part of a package, please call to set an appointment to use them. Unused sessions must be done by the end of September. I am very sorry that unused sessions are not refundable. If you are not able to use them and want to transfer them to a friend or family member, we could arrange that.

I will let you know when we open Juice on Main. I look forward to continuing our relationship, and hope to continue to be part of your health journey.

Healthfully yours,

It truly is the best way to figure out what foods may be problematic. If you are feeling tired or have bloating after a meal you may be one of many who are experiencing food sensitivities.
We all know the obvious...gluten, and may already eat a gluten free diet but what about the other allergens?
The best way is to eliminate all 7 allergens for 21 days and then introduce them back in to the diet one at a time. Before starting it is really important to pay attention to how you feel. Are you tired all the time? Do you have bloating after meals? How about headaches? Sinus issues? Pants a little too tight? Once noted it is time to begin.
Okay so the 7 problematic foods are...sugar, gluten, dairy, soy, peanuts, eggs, and corn. You must be really strict for 21 days to get the best results. Then on day 22, test one food from the list and see if you have a reaction. Make note of how you feel for the next 48 hours. Not sure? Test again. Typically results are pretty clear cut. Let me know how it goes.
Start eating health right away, not tomorrow, not Monday, not Jan 1, lol, but today!! We all too often put it off to a later time while continuing to eat poorly. The food we put into our mouths is so important. This time of year sugar is a real problem. I used to eating sugar on Halloween which would then continue to Thanksgiviing. Then of course holiday baking would be right around the corner. By New Years I would have gained 10 to 15 pounds. It would take me until the summer to lose it and for a few months would look and feel great. I no longer do that to myself. Getting sugar out of your system is the key. Make the choice to not eat sugar, white flour, unhealthy starches. Feeling good is the best gift you can give yourself this holiday season.

Take good care of yourself....you will not regret it!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17092307683394052663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527732259941940487.post-67110597898011166692012-11-21T05:51:00.001-08:002012-11-21T05:51:54.948-08:00Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!! I was watching the news this morning and they were showing people camped out at Best Buy for Black Friday. My thoughts are not on holiday shopping yet. I know that is bad but I can't get there quite yet. Instead I am thinking of health options for the holidays! Trying to eat healthy and not let it all go to the wayside. My goal this year is to continue on a healthy path right through the holidays. Anyone care to join me? Let's encourage one another to eat healthy, exercise and enjoy ourselves while feeling great!! I think this one sums it up quite nicely. If you don't think much about what you are wearing...think again. I often wonder why we don't just go back to basics...cotton, wool, and all natural fabrics. The world would be a much better and healthier place :)!
In layman's terms they help to break down your food which makes them very important for your overall health. Raw foods are loaded with enzymes while cooked foods are not. It is very important to try to eat with a high percentage of raw foods. It will improve overall digestion and general health. You will feel more energetic as well. It is very important to supplement with a good digestive enzyme if you do not have a lot of raw vegetables in your current diet. Try adding them. I always tell clients to eat something raw with every meal. Even if you don't have time to make a salad. Cut up some cucumbers, carrots or celery to munch on with your lunch. I'd be interested to hear how many are eating a primarily raw food diet. Let's all try to add more raw food to our diets!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17092307683394052663noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527732259941940487.post-20642618549420760522012-03-07T05:55:00.000-08:002012-03-07T05:55:17.747-08:00Want to Stop Sugar Cravings in their Tracks?Anyone familiar with kefir? Kefir is a probiotic beverage that is very easy to make. They sell regular kefir, which is a fermented dairy drink similar to yogurt, in the stores. However, since most of us avoid dairy products, there is an alternative. Young coconut kefir. Read what people are saying about this amazing easy to prepare beverage:
My answer, "Probiotics". Probiotics are very important. The microflora help to balance the gut for a balanced inner eco-system. You can get healthy bacteria from a probiotic supplement or from probiotic foods. This week the focus will be on probiotics so check in for some good recipes.
It always makes me smile to hear him say that but I honestly don't usually do what he suggests. I recently went on a trip to Kripalu with my daughter, which if you have never been, I strongly urge you to do so. We spent just a little over 24 hours there but it was wonderful. The atmosphere there is just so calming. It is an escape from the fast-paced lives that we all live these days. One of the best parts of this getaway is the idea of no electronic devices. How wonderful! My daughter and I actually enjoyed ourselves much more because we did not have the distraction of the cell phone. It was great. We did yoga, sat in on a whole foods cooking class and relaxed in the sauna and whirlpool. Shortly before our departure we attended a workshop on "Inhabiting your Body". It too was great. It really made me think about how little time I/we spend just being still and paying attention to our bodies and what they are trying to tell us. We take such good care of everything else, our cars, our homes, our pets, our children and so on..... I myself do try to take good care of myself. I eat well (most of the time, lol) I try to squeeze in exercise but when life gets busy it gets put on the back burner. We only get one body to take us through an entire lifetime. We must make taking care of it a priority. So I have made the decision to take time out for me everyday and I challenge you to do the same. So in the words of my dear friend, "Do something nice for yourself today". Slow down a little and take time to nurture yourself :)!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17092307683394052663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527732259941940487.post-77016263085746353872012-01-19T07:23:00.000-08:002012-01-19T07:23:03.335-08:00Looking for a new delicious recipe?Try this one for Anise-Almond Biscotti

Almonds have strong medicinal qualities, including inhibiting cancer and the ability to lower cholesterol and alkalize the body. They are high in magnesium, protein, calcium and vitamin E. Almonds are also very versatile as this recipe will demonstrate. A vegan version of the famous biscotti is truly one of life's pleasures...Enjoy!!

INGREDIENTS:

-1 T. whole anise seed
- 1 3/4 C. whole wheat pastry flour
- 1 C. whole raw almonds, ground to a powder (*)
- 1/2 C. extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 C. pure maple syrup
- 1 T. vanilla extract
- 1/2 t. salt
- 1/2 C. sesame seeds

DIRECTIONS:

1) Toast anise seeds in a small, dry skillet over medium-low heat for three minutes. Transfer to a coffee grinder or mini-blender and grind to a powder.
2) Combine the pastry flour with the ground anise seed and ground almonds in a large bowl. In a separate bowl or measuring cup whisk together the oil, syrup, vanilla and salt. Stir into flour mixture. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes.
3) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Have the oven rack in the center of the oven. Spread sesame seeds on a large plate. Shape dough into two 8 inch logs, packing dough tightly together so that it doesn't crumble. Roll the logs into the sesame seeds and place on a foil-lined baking sheet. (or just on baking sheet)
4) Bake for 45 minutes or until browned and firm. Set baking sheet on a wire rack and cool for 5 minutes.
5) Cut each log into 1/2 inch diagonal slices with a serrated knife. Place the flat side down on baking sheets and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks. Store up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.

(*) You can purchase almond flour (pre-ground almonds) in a package, but grinding your own will give these cookies a more intense flavor.

Makes about 24 cookies

Recipe from Vegetarian Times Magazine

I make these all the time and I am certainly NOT a baker. Very easy to make and come out great every time. I have even sustituted rice syrup for maple syrup and still delicious! Let me know how they come out!
I found it to be very informative. Many of my clients have asked me for information over the years on liver cleansing and I truly find this to be the best cleanse for most people. As I have suggested the book to so many clients, I have yet to complete a long series of liver cleanses myself with the frequency that the author suggests for the best results. I am committed to doing so this time and will certainly be happy to report my results. Feel free to join me and would love input from anyone who has done this cleanse in the past!!
I was thinking about this the other day and trying to come up with an idea to make it through the holidays feeling good. Most people gain 5 to 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. It is the time of year when not only holiday parties steer us away from our normal routines, but the change in weather creates the desire for warm, comfort foods as well.

This led to my idea. The 10-Day Challenge. It's this simple. Make the decision to take the challenge. Start right away. (no time like the present)

Rules:

No Sugar (poison)
No White flour (another poison)
No Wheat (rough on the digestive system, mucous forming)
No Dairy (another poison, also very mucous forming)

You might say, "what's left?"

You may eat lots of fruits and vegetables, good whole grains, nuts, seeds, lean protein (for non-vegetarians). Drink plenty of water. If you own a juicer, juicing is great.

Things to help you on your way:

Start each day with a cup of warm water with lemon.

Dry skin brush each morning before you shower.

Drink a blend of Just Cranberry juice diluted with water twice a day. (4 oz. cranberry to 32 oz. water)

Take time to breathe deeply throughout the day

Exercise! You must move for 30 minutes each day. Any kind of exercise will do as long as you are moving. Walking, running, weight training, yoga, raking leaves, shoveling snow, etc. You get the idea.

Ideally, we will all feel so good that we will continue our healthy eating well into the New Year. We can connect via email or Facebook to encourage each other.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to take the challenge? Let's step into the New Year together with a healthy mind and body!!!

The traditional prep involves fasting and drinking laxatives in order to thoroughly clean the colon before the procedure. That means staying close to a bathroom during the laxative portion of the prep. This prep is not only unpleasant, it is also has adverse side effects as recently reported by the FDA. See the following link: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm150561.htm

Colon hydrotherapy, combined with fasting, is a more dignified and convenient preparation for the procedure, and is approved by the FDA.

One of my clients, whose gastroenterologist had tried unsuccessfully to perform a colonoscopy three different times following Phospho-soda prep, had a successful procedure following prep with colonics and fasting. Her doctor was thrilled with the results using colonics.

Colon hydrotherapy is a more comfortable way to prepare for colonoscopies and sygmoidoscopies, without the use of chemicals. It is safe and effective. Please contact me directly to discuss your options for appointment times. I will work with you to ensure that you have a successful procedure!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17092307683394052663noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8527732259941940487.post-56211795268837140562010-10-12T13:26:00.000-07:002010-10-12T13:26:34.352-07:00Creating digestive health through colonicsMore than 65 million people are affected by digestive disorders today. Digestive disorders account for 50 million physician office visits per year and approximately 107 billion in medical costs each year. Factors contributing to this epidemic are stress, overeating, processed foods (Standard American Diet), sedentary lifestyles and simply living in a toxic world.

The colon is typically the most neglected part of the body. It is the last five feet of the digestive tract and is where we store waste just prior to elimination from the body. The colon is sometimes referred to as the sewer system of the body. Build up of matter in the colon results in toxins leaching into the blood stream and leads to lack of energy and a general decline in health. Keeping the colon clean is absolutely vital to good health.

Colon hydrotherapy, sometimes referred to as a colonic, is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the colon. It has been used for centuries but is gaining popularity most recently as people are becoming more aware of the importance of colon cleansing.

The session itself is simple. It begins by instilling purified water into the lower bowel through a disposable rectal nozzle. The nozzle is only the size of a drinking straw and is self inserted about 1 inch. The water flows gently into the colon, loosening any matter that may have accumulated on the intestinal walls. The water flows out gently into the basin of the system. A certified colon therapist attends you throughout. At Inner Health we use the Angel of Water colon hydrotherapy system. It is registered with the FDA and offers a safe and effective means of evacuating the colon.

Colon hydrotherapy can also be used to prepare for medical procedures, such as colonoscopies and barium enemas (eliminating the unpleasant drinks used to prepare).
